Ever since I was a young child watching my mom, an ESL teacher, help my friends learn English, I’ve been enamored with teaching. Fundamentally I believe teaching others, whether through formal lessons or simply through positive role modeling, is one of the most important and rewarding things we can do - distributing knowledge and empowering those around us to be the best that they can be.
For the past four years I have devoted a very large amount of time - more time than I spent on any other singular task - on teaching. In the past year alone, I had the pleasure of being a teaching assistant for MIT’s largest robotics design course (where I received the best student ratings of any non-professor teaching staff) and am now working full time as a teaching assistant for MIT’s capstone mechanical engineering class, “Fundamentals of Product Design.” There is nothing I love more than seeing students who are initially very timid and skeptical of their own abilities open up and by the end of a course be confidently teaching their own peers. In this way, I would like to share a few of the many teaching and leadership roles I have taken in the past few years.
